Lasirèn

Lasirèn is the mermaid lwa — the long-haired siren who lives beneath the water and rises in the silver hour. She is the lwa of dreams, of music, of the deep memory the body carries from before it was born. To meet her is to remember something you did not know you knew.

She stands for inner waters — intuition, lunar wisdom, the unspoken knowing that arrives in sleep and song. She presides over musicians, dreamers, healers, and anyone whose work asks them to listen below the surface. Her blessing is depth: the rare ability to be still enough that the truth can rise.

Carried across the water from West African mermaid traditions, Lasirèn became, in Haiti, the lwa who arrives combing her long hair, holding a mirror, and bringing pearls from the sea floor. She is sister to Labalèn the whale and sometimes wife to Agwe of the deep. Her offerings are champagne, white pastries, perfume, and silver. To make a room for her is to agree that the inner life is sacred — and that some of the truest knowing comes only when you go quiet enough to hear the tide.
